Friends of the Beehive - Message from Emily Lauder

I love this idea! Thanks Emily for sharing this with all of us! I think this is something we should all plan on doing this upcoming year in Primary.

REVIEW ACTIVITY -- We did a memory game. This was good for Senior Primary. On one match I had the song we were singing and on the other match was the scripture that talked about the song. It was great because it got the kids reading and looking up scriptures. Example: "I Know that my Savior Loves Me" and the match for this song would be 3 Nephi 17:21-23.

Have fun playing!

Friends of the Beehive - Message from Dani Souza

I have to personally thank Dani Souza, a friend of Beehive Messages, who has decided to help in translating the weekly Primary Music Memo in Portuguese.  Dani was just recently released from Primary and put into Relief Society so she is totally going out of her way to do this.  Dani, you are a very special lady and I know all those that will have the chance to use this material will be ever so grateful for your time.

Lots of Love and Much Thanks!
Jennifer

Friends of the Beehive - Message from Lynn Slocum

I have been so excited to share what Lynn did with my earlier post entitled...SINGING PRAISES TO HIM CLUB.  I love her spin on this and hope all of you will too!

The first picture is of the badges. I included one that is for a girl and the black and white is for the boys. The third picture is of my buttons and how I keep them. I pasted clipart from various places onto 81/2 x 11 sheets and printed, laminated and then punched out with 1-1/2 punch and 1 inch hole punch for the article of faith songs. I place two strips of Velcro to the backs of these and place in 4x6 photo album book. They stay in this nicely and it's easy to get out for primary. I just peel off the non stick strip and press on to the child's ribbon as they earn them.

This was my way of saving money to make enough for 50 senior primary kids.

For the junior primary I just glued pin backs to the singing badges and pin them on the junior when they sing for the 4th Sunday Share. They don't do the SPRH club.

Luv,

Lynn

Friends of the Beehive - Message from Stacey Mortensen

Beehive Messages friend, Stacey, shared with me these really cool ideas for Music Time.  I think you will enjoy these especially if you are looking for some creative ways to teach songs to Nursery aged children or Jr. Primary.

Idea Number One from Stacey:

A huge hit with my Junior Primary is what I have named "Walter Wiggle Songs".  Walter is a worm that can't stop wiggling and needs to sing to help him stop.  The songs are obviously from the ACTION section of the Children's Songbook.  This is so popular that I now give the children a choice between selecting a song from the board that goes along with my weekly presentation or doing a "Walter Wiggle Song".  I have a bag with a picture of Walter on the outside and inside the bag are smaller pictures of Walter with a wiggle song attached.

Idea Number Two from Stacey:

Right now in addition to teaching a song of the month, I am introducing new songs from the Children's Songbook each Sunday.  When I say a new song it just means they haven't sung that song in the time that I have been the chorister.  I find that they enjoy singing different songs even if we only sing it one time that week.  I love visuals aids and use them every week.  Just this past week I found a wooden circle with a smiley face on it at the dollar store.  Both my Nursery and Junior Primary loved touching, holding, and guessing what song we would sing that had something to do with a smile or happiness, etc...

Idea Number Three from Stacey:

This is my version of what I call Singing Sam the Slinky and felt hearts.  Singing Sam has helped many hesitant Sunbeams come to the front of the room and hold Singing Sam knowing to only lift Sam up out of the box when the children are singing well.  I glued the slinky to the bottom of the box and added eyes to the top, and music notes around the box with his name.

The felt hearts I made were going to be primarily used for Nursery and Junior Primary.  One day...the Senior Primary asked me why they couldn't use the hearts.  I told them they could if they wanted to and every single one of them eagerly wanted a heart (even our tough 11 year old boys).  The children hold the hearts as we sing songs with the word love in the song or title.  If the song has the word heart we place the felt heart over our hearts when we sing the word.  If we sing the word love we hold that heart in the air when we sing the word.  I then take it one step further and have the children follow my directions with the hearts.  I say something like:  hold the heart in your palm, touch the heart to your forehead, touch your knee, put the heart next to your own heart, rub your cheek with the heart and kiss the heart good-bye.  These extra steps help the children relinquish the heart without a commotion and the Nursery children know that our singing time is over and they wave good-bye to me until next week.  It sounds a little silly, but it really is effective for our younger children.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Stacey!!!!

Friends of the Beehive - Message from Kristen Dye

Beehive Messages friend, Kristen, shared with me how she shared the Relief Society Getting to Know You Party Booklet from our post on 1/23/10.   I love what Kristen put together.

Friends of the Beehive

I'd like to introduce a NEW section to Beehive Messages that I'm going to call FRIENDS OF THE BEEHIVE.  I have had the chance to hear from so many of you and I'm excited to announce that I'm going to start posting some of your fun ideas on the blog.  Once a week...if I've heard from you...I will take some time to highlight your ideas.  These can be your own original ideas or ways that you have used ideas that have already been posted on the blog.

If you would like to participate you will need to do the following:

1.  Email me at jennifer.hawkins@hotmail.com or beehivemessages@gmail.com.
2.  Put together a description of what it is you are sharing with us.
3.  Include pictures of your idea.  Please make sure your pictures are as professional looking as they possibly can be.  Attach your photos to the email in a JPEG file and a PDF file if you can.  These types of files seem to work best.
