Beehive Messages - Day of Service 2010

Day of Service 2010

For those of you that live in the South East Region of the United States you are probably already aware of the Day of Service.  For those of you who don't live within this region...the Day of Service was an idea that Elder Gonzales had to reach out to those within our communities to bring the church out of obscurity.  This year our ward (Clermont Ward) along with the Minneola Ward and Sumterville Branch focused our Day of Service on helping those in Haiti.  We started collecting clothing, food, blankets, etc... about 8 weeks ago and managed to fill an entire warehouse.  These items were collected from friends, neighbors, businesses, etc...  On April 24, 2010, we celebrated our Day of Service accomplishment and had the opportunity to meet Josette, a member of the Rose Foundation, who will be helping to deliver the supplies to the people of Haiti.  Josette is a member of the church and a well known doctor in her field.  I was happy to have had the opportunity to serve on the committee and can't wait until next year.

Side note...I'm attaching a few fun picture from the day.  I took over 400 pictures, but I won't bore you with all of them.  You will see a group picture of a few of our Primary Children who had the chance to fill hygiene kits, a picture of the Mayor of Groveland with Josette (The Mayor is a member too and my family's home teacher), a group picture of some of our ward members, a group picture of the Day of Service Committee minus a member or two that were off giving blood at the time of the photo (I'm in the black baseball cap and some of you may recognize Donna Dewberry.  She's in my ward and is a famous artist.  She's in the red shirt), a picture of a few of our youth that turned into Super Hero's that day, and last but not least a picture of my son Braden with his Spider Man face.  He waited until the very end of the day to get his face painted and then he ran off with his buddy so they could play.

Enjoy!
