Primary Music Idea - I Hope They Call Me On A Mission

This past week in Primary I brought with me a picture of a missionary that I had downloaded from the Mormon Times.  I love this particular picture because it shows the average teenager and how he needs to change in order to because a missionary.  I showed half of the picture to the Primary Children and asked them to list some things that a missionary would have to do in order to be ready to go on his or her mission.  It was really fun to hear their thoughts on this.  We talked about how their hair needs to be cut nice, they can't take their I-Pod with them, they need to dress nice, and need to have a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, etc...Then, I showed the nicer side of the photo and we talked about how missionaries represent our church and if they prepare now they too can serve a full-time mission some day.  Next, we sang "I Hope They Call Me On A Mission".  After singing that song, we talked about how the missionaries go tracking and knock on several doors each day searching for those that might want to learn more about our church.  I asked the Primary Children - What do you think they say when they get to some one's door and they answer it?  I told them that they would say that they are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  So.....we had to sing "I Belong To The Church of Jesus Christ".  We continued our conversation about what would happen if the person behind the door were to say YES I want to learn more about your church.  I asked the Primary Children - What types of things do you think the missionaries would talk to them about?  Then, I pulled out a matching game that I had found a very long time ago in one of the Church Magazines that covers several of the topics that our missionaries would cover while talking to an investigator.  We had fun making matches and singing the songs on the cards after a match was made.  This turned out to be a wonderful missionary Sunday!

If you would like a copy of the Missionary and the Music Memory Cards...please comment here or email directly at jennifer.hawkins@hotmail.com.  Be sure to leave me your email address.

Oh...another idea...you can use the memory cards in Nursery.  Our Nursery children had fun seeing the cute pictures.
