Primary Music Idea - USA ("U" "S"ing "A"wesome!)

Let's hear it for the RED, WHITE, and BLUE!!! Go USA!!! My family has been having so much fun this past week watching the Winter Olympics. It's been refreshing to watch some good clean entertainment on TV with the kids. This has inspired me to take the fun that we've been having at home to church tomorrow. I came up with the idea of talking to the Primary children about having PRIDE in singing the Primary Songs we’re learning this year. We are also preparing for a special musical number next week so I decided that I would present to the children GOLD medals for their Superior Singing...IF...they sing with GREAT PRIDE the songs we have been working on this past month. I think they will work really hard to earn their metals tomorrow. I also made a paper badge that says U Sing Awesome that I'm going to have the teachers tape onto their shirts when they see a SUPER SINGER in their row. The teachers love to feel like they are involved too.

I've attached to this post the paper badges. If you feel like spreading some USA spirit in your Primary and would like to have the PDF file sent to you via email...please let me know.

GO USA!!!

  1. OK, once again, I am in awe of your creativity! I love this! I have been working on the olympic theme singing time for our primary, and we've been having lots of fun.. but this would be the perfect ending to the olympics! I think I will make each of the kids (all 225 of them) a gold medal to take home. I will tweak it a little bit though and on the reverse side of the medal, do a picture with the song that they have won the gold for. That way, I can bring this great idea back for each of our program songs! Please email me the PDF. Thanks! goin2disneyland@comcast.net

  5. Jennifer,
I'm assuming you make enough for every teacher to give one out for each child. I can see all my kids really trying to see their best to get one of these neato badges.

I had a question also about pdf files. I always just copy and paste your ideas here and then copy them in my microsoft word. What advantage is a pdf file? Just curious.

Just wanted to say, our primary is really loving the badges. I wanted to share a picture of them, but the only way I know how is to send as an attachment in email. Is your email address the one posted on this site? I'd love to share.

  10. Thank you so much for sharing all of your ideas! This is great! I have added to the idea by making olympic rings that will be placed on the board. The children will select one of the rings and guess how many notes they can "name the tune" that is written on the back of the ring. We will then practice that song. There will be five practice songs.

  11. Hi Corky...

What a neat idea! I love that you are including the Olympic Rings. How neat is that?! I think we are all going to be sad when the Olympics are over. They sure have been fun to watch.

Thanks again for your great idea!

  12. Jennifer,

Once again, my Primary kids loved your idea. Everyone wanted to do their best so they could earn their gold medal. After church I saw a lot of them walking to their cars with their parents still wearing the medals around their necks. This idea is definitively a keeper! Thank you again!

  13. Hi Batistas...

I'm so glad everyone had a good time earning their reward! Sounds like it was a fun Sunday for your Primary children. I wish I could have been there to see their faces. I'm so sad the Olympics are over. I had way too much fun watching them.

    Have a great week!
