Come Unto Christ
I had the chance this past Fall to read Emily Freeman's book entitled 21 Days Closer to Christ. I loved it! It was such a beautiful book to read and I felt the spirit every time I turned the page. After reading it, I felt like this was something that all of the Young Women in our Stake needed to read. I knew that we would not be able to purchase the book for all of them to read, but thought that maybe I could use it to create a countdown to camp. I had the chance to personally meet Emily Freeman at Time Out for Women here in Orlando and asked her if I could use portions of her book to help our Young Women prepare for camp. She happily said YES! I sat down with one of the YCL'S that is working with me on camp activities and we came up with the idea of making a countdown similar to a tear off calendar. We used 4x4 inch pieces of wood and painted the bottom and sides in the different value colors. Each ward will receive a piece of wood representing their camp value. Then, Megan (YCL) decided that the top would look really neat done in stripes representing each value. We added a hook in the middle up top and hung the calendar pages to it. They really look nice and I think the girls will love them. Each Young Woman will be receiving one at Pre-Camp and when we are 21 days out from camp they will begin the journey reading together as a unit preparing for camp. Megan thinks that the girls should use them as key holders when they are finished with the countdown. Maybe they could hang their Young Woman Medallion on it. My hope is that each Young Woman will prepare spiritually to receive the messages that will be shared at camp. Thanks Megan for all of your help!
On a side note...this could be incorporated into so many different areas. You could use them in Relief Society, Primary, Young Men's, Young Women's, FHE, etc... Be sure to get those creative minds working!
I would love to share this with all of you. If you would like the PDF file for the 21 Day Countdown...please comment here or email me at jennifer.hawkins@hotmail.com. Be sure to leave me your email address or I will not be able to share this with you. Have a wonderful day!
