Happy Mother's Day!
I thought for days about how I wanted to approach teaching a Mother's Day song to the Primary Children this year. In the past, I've used flowers or other fun Mommy type things and I decided that it was time to try something different. So...I decided that it would be fun to COOK up a SPECIAL RECIPE...A Recipe for a Happy Mother's Day. All you need is an apron, a few props from around your kitchen, and these adorable little MUSICAL RECIPE CARDS. I decided that I would like to teach Mother, I Love You from the Children's Songbook on page 207. I made RECIPE CARDS for the different sections of the song making sure that the words were underlined just like you would see the words placed on a recipe card. I printed them out on green paper to match my apron and cut out pink tabs to go on the top. As I teach the song...I'm going to place the RECIPE CARDS onto a cookie sheet. Make sure you place magnet on the back of each card. I think that I'll also take some time to talk about different things Mother's do for us. You could place different objects inside your pockets to represent those things. Then, I made a paper apron with a cute little Mother's Day Poem Card that I placed inside it's paper pocket. The Primary Children can write a special message to MOM or GRANDMA on the back. Make sure they give it to them on Mother's Day as a special gift from them with love. My Mom remembered that this Mother's Day poem was one that my Grandma Hales had shared with her years ago when I was in Primary. We were so happy to have found it and enjoyed a few minutes talking about my Grandmother who has since passed away. I hope you will all have a special Mother's Day this year!
Oh...forgot to mention that my Mom is going to use the poem in Relief Society, but she is going to place the poem on a lollipop stick and place it into a flower for each of the sisters. Maybe this will be another idea for those of you looking for a fun Relief Society idea or Visiting Teaching surprise for the month of May.

Thank you!
Love your ideas! I have used some for my sunbeam class. This would be great for me to make a craft project for them to take home! (Apron for the front and song on the back!) It (almost) makes me wish I were a chorister instead of a teacher!

I do love your blog and all your creative ideas. I'm curious...are you singing the last line of the song after the first and second verse? I think it only is sung once at the end...
Hi Shawna...
Our Primary Children will be singing the 1st verse followed directly by the 2nd verse and ending with the Mother, I Love You, I Love You, I Do part. I had too much fun on Sunday sharing this song with the Primary Children.
Have fun!
Jennifer
Our primary kids had a blast too! We spent the whole singing time on the song and they did a beautiful job. May 2 is a special stake conf. so it was our only chance to practice. Thanks again for sharing your creative and inspirational talents with the rest of us!
