Happy Father's Day DAD!
I've packed up my fishing gear and I'm ready to head to the Primary room to teach the song My Dad from the Children's Songbook on page 211. My fishing hat has all my fishing gear attached to it. I caught a paper fish just the other day so it will smell really good by the time I get to church and I've got more paper fish that my Primary Friends can help me to capture once we begin learning the song. In order to get the chance to come fishing with me they will have to be sitting reverently with their arms folded. One by one, they will have the chance to come and fish in my FISHING HOLE (a blue bucket I snuck from my son Braden's room). Each of the fish that they pull out will have a different section of the song. Once all of the fish are caught, we will take some time to figure out the proper order to the words of the song. I've placed magnet on the back of each piece so they can be placed up on the blackboard. I'm sure the Primary Children will be singing their little hearts out this year! As a special surprise for Dad or Grandpa, each child can take this Happy Father's Day Card and write a special message on the back. Attach the note and some Swedish Fish to a wooden dowel and away they go home for more FISHING ADVENTURES!
I hope you will all have a fantastic Father's Day this upcoming June!

ReplyDeleteI love this idea, but I have a few children in my Primary that do not live with or have their father's in their lives. I'm wondering how this might impact them and how I might approach this activity with them in mind. Any suggestions?

I have received a few emails from some of you asking about what you should do if you have Primary Children in your Ward that do not have a father. My suggestion would be to either highlight a Grandpa or the Bishop of your Ward. You could also see if there is another Adult Male in their family that they admire that they might want to do something for.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Jennifer

In regards to the comment about being worried about children who do not have their fathers with them, thank you for being sensitive but realize that we all have a father of some kind. I'm a single mom and my kids don't see their father very much. I am so grateful for the concept that was given myself for my sons to realize that they do have a perfect Father in Heaven who will always be there for them. Once realizing this Father's Day has never been that hard of a day after all...
ReplyDeleteI would love this in pdf form.
